I. Love. Skirts. ~ Guest Post by Jennifer Ross

Skirts!

I love skirts!

Long and flowing, feminine and pretty.

I. Love. Skirts!

Skirts are an extension of womanhood.

They say: * I am distinctly female * I am a woman * I am content, excited even, to be a woman!

Skirts set you apart. And isn't that what we are supposed to do as children of God? Be separate... set apart?

"Come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord" ~2 Corinthians 6:17

There are many ways to be holy for our Lord, or set apart. Wearing skirts is one of the many. It is just another tool in the arsenal of the virtuous woman.

Skirts identify you to the world; A mother out with her children, all the girls are in dresses or skirts, says; "we are in this world, but not of this world." Skirts say, "I don't need to follow what the feminists said I should." I am proclaiming that I am different than men and pleased to be so.

Heart Check~ Yes, you know what comes next, the part where I say "Some of the Godliest women I know wear pants."

I have to be honest with you...I don't believe that pants are evil. Or even ungodly. And yes, some of my favorite fellow homemakers wear pants!

So what to do with all of this?

Try a skirt once a week, if you usually wear pants. Have fun twirling with your little girls! Delight in dancing with your husband or sons! Enjoy a barefoot walk across a freshly mowed lawn, feeling the summer breeze blow through a long, flowing skirt.

In essence, embrace womanhood and all it has to offer!

"Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord" in all you say and do!

Wonderful post! I am a skirt only wearer also. This was a refreshing way to look at things. Makes you wonder sometimes why everyone doesn't see it this way. :)

Beautiful post. I've only worn jeans for years. I actually just went out and bought 4 dresses and I LOVE wearing them.

Great post! I have 3 daughters and I always tell them they should look as feminine as possible where ever they go, whatever they do. I love to feel feminine. I'm definately going to share this post!

I also only wear skirts, my two girls also. As babys I didn't put pants on them. I just loved all the beautiful baby clothes that was their for them to wear. I love how you described wearing skirts. My mom made most of our clothes and I didn't wear pants as a child. Now most of the girls and women I know started wearing them. They are truely wonderful christian women. I have a friend that is having a hard time finding pants that are not to tight or to low, it seems like they are making clothing a little more immodest each year.

Thank you Jennifer!! I, too wear skirts and love the way they make me feel more feminine. People out in the "world" treat me a bit more feminine, also. (some have offered to help me with heavy bags) And don't we all need to step back sometimes from our "I can do it all myself" attitude? Thanks again for the reminders of why I started to wear skirts in the first place!!

Wonderful post! I began switching to skirts for a variety of reasons such as difficultity in finding proper fit of pants, modesty and less expense. I'm trying to learn to sew so that I can make my own modes and stylish skirts and dresses. They've posed as quite the challenge to find in the stores. Have any recommendation for where to shop for dresses or skirts of this type? I would definitely agree that a skirt or dress alters the way in which we carry ourselves. (Thus, school systems put dress codes in place because they know more respectable attire encourages more respectable behavior.) I also agree that women can wear pants and be equally respectable. How we carry ourselves is also founded in the disposition of our hearts. :)

Hi Whitney!
I have many merchants listed under the clothing tab depending on what you are looking for. If you goto the clothing tab it will direct you to ladies. From there, you will find a large assortmet of clothiers ranging in style and price-point. I created this site specifically for finding respectable companies who offer modest clothing because I also find it difficult to find my "style" in a modest fashion!
Have fun looking!

Well said. It's not just about modesty...it's also about being distinctly feminine in a society where gender lines are blurred and sometimes non-existent. Two weeks ago while out with my children (the girls and I were wearing skirts), an elderly man opened the door for me, smile, and tipped his hat! :)

Blessings,
Lisa

What a refreshing view! I don't have any girls yet, just my 3 boys. But I want them to grow up seeing their mom wearing skirts and being feminine so they will know what to look for in a future wife, AND how to treat her like a lady. And WHEN (God has promised me a girl) I have my girl, she will be skirts only and we WILL twirl in the kitchen :)

While I have absolutely nothing against women wearing skirts, I have often wondered how I could possibly wear one with my lifestyle. I live on a working farm with my husband. I take care of all of the yardwork (which requires a minimum of 8 hours a week of just mowing), feed bottle calves (including throwing them down for shots), drive tractors and combines, etc. etc. I have always felt that wearing a skirt in these circumstances would be completely unsafe. Are there any other farmwives out there that deal with these situations while wearing a skirt?

@ Anonymous,
I totally ageee with you that you should be safe and skirts could possible get in the way and cause harm to you while you are working. Before we moved to WV we had more of a country life-style. I still wore my skirts, but I had designated skirts for "work" that I didn't mind getting dirty or torn. I never wore extra long skirts but ones that came mid-calf or knee and leggings underneath. If you get a chance to watch "Homestead Blessings" these are four farm girls who do some of what you mention. I think dressing for the occasion would include farm work and if you can't wear a skirt...no worries! Thank you for sharing!
